Erie county, DA Clark announced his retirement soon due to medical reasons on 5/12/2008.

 The State police have a new superintendent, the Sheriffs department has Sherriff Howard in his first term, Buffalo has a somewhat recently appointed Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson.

As today's(5-12-08) 3 hours stand-off on the I-90(story WKBW.com) which could have easily turned into suicide by cop shows, they  have  learned situational awareness ,discipline, how to deal with the emotionally disturbed, proper use of the equipment and tools at hand and non lethal force and stacked the odds in favor of a desirable outcome.

The Buffalo police SWAT team, along with the state police who originally pulled the man over and the Erie county sheriffs' department and even the US coast guard all worked together  and where able to subdue the man, a Vietnam veteran holding a gun to his head, alive with non-lethal force.

Great Job everyone!

I almost forgot but was reminded by the story today 5-13-08(story WKBW.com).  The Buffalo field office of the FBI was the first to have a change in head management after 9-11. Today I'm glad to see that someone's paying attention in this FBI office, actually an amazing attention to detail.
